Liverpool midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones were seemingly involved in a heated on-pitch argument on Thursday, following the team's 1-0 pre-season friendly win against Wrexham at Yankee Stadium in New York. The dispute potentially related to the captain's armband.
After assisting Rio Ngumoha's goal, Szoboszlai was replaced and handed the captain's armband to Kostas Tsimikas. Following the final whistle, Szoboszlai and Tsimikas were seen in a heated conversation with Jones. Jones, 25, appeared agitated during the exchange, with other players reportedly attempting to calm the situation. Tsimikas later joined the discussion and threw the armband onto the turf, which Jones then picked up before embracing Szoboszlai.
When asked about the incident at a post-match press conference, Szoboszlai did not directly address the matter. He stated, "We are all in the same boat, and we want the best for the club and for each other."
