Anthony Joshua has revealed he has been getting help from Peter Fury, the uncle and former trainer of rival Tyson Fury, ahead of their British super-fight.
Joshua and Fury faced off for the first time at a launch press conference at Olympia London on Wednesday, six days after announcing their bout for 11 December at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff.
Joshua already has a former Fury ally in his corner, teaming with another of Fury's ex-trainers in Ben Davison. Joshua said he is in contact with Peter Fury, who has become estranged from Tyson Fury since the pair split as fighter and trainer following his world title win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.
"I speak to Peter Fury, he's willing to help me," Joshua said. "Me and Peter get along." Joshua said he had spoken to Peter as recently as a month ago, with it appearing Fury's uncle will play a key role in his camp, which will head to continental Europe in the coming weeks.
Fury admitted he was disappointed to hear that Davison has teamed up with Joshua. "Is it confirmed? That's deflating, isn't it Frank," Fury said, sitting beside promoter Frank Warren. "Don't forget, I left Ben Davison to go with SugarHill [Steward] because he wasn't good enough, and this is the same Ben Davison who Anthony Joshua left because he wasn't good enough when he got knocked out after Dubois."
