A travel editor has called for more critical hotel reviews, citing recent issues at the new Six Senses London hotel. During a stay this summer, the editor's guest reportedly found a piece of glass in their dinner.
The editor also noted that an incorrect safe lock code was sent via an in-room app. Following the incident, the guest who found the glass was offered a complimentary stay by the manager, but their subsequent emails regarding the reservation went unanswered for over a fortnight.
The editor stated that journalists in the travel industry are generally less inclined to publish negative reviews compared to those reviewing restaurants or theatre. They highlighted a previous incident at another London hotel where a piece of brass fell from a shower and incorrect food was served, which they did not report at the time.
Despite concerns raised by staff about potential job losses, the editor intends to publish the story, arguing that consumers deserve to know if an experience is worth the cost. They hope no jobs are lost, attributing such mistakes to systemic issues rather than individual staff.
