Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has left the club's pre-season camp in Spain to have a check-up on a persistent groin injury. The 25-year-old Dutch international has returned to London from Spain.
Timber missed the majority of the final two months of last season due to the injury, though he did make a substitute appearance in the Champions League final defeat to PSG. He subsequently missed the World Cup. The BBC reports that this move is part of his rehabilitation timeline and not a fresh setback.
Arsenal, who won their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, have other injury concerns ahead of the new campaign. Centre-back William Saliba is set for an extended period out with a back injury. Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Noni Madueke may also miss the start of the season due to recent World Cup commitments.
The Gunners' first competitive match is the Community Shield against Manchester City on 16 August, followed by their Premier League opener against newly promoted Coventry City on 21 August.
