Irish boxing icon Katie Taylor is preparing for her valedictory bout tonight, Saturday, 5 September 2026, at Croke Park in Dublin. The 40-year-old super-lightweight champion and Olympic gold medallist will defend her titles in what is confirmed to be her final fight.
Taylor's brother-in-law, Trevor McMahon, described the event as "the end of an era." He added that it would be an "amazing night but it'll also be a little bit sad."
The fight, which will see Taylor face unbeaten French champion Flora Pili, is expected to draw an 80,000-strong crowd. Tickets for the event sold out in just 17 minutes after going on sale in June. The national broadcaster, RTÉ, will broadcast the proceedings free to air.
Taylor's career has been lauded for pioneering women's boxing. She was instrumental in persuading Irish authorities to lift a ban on women in the ring in 2001 and in having women’s boxing added to the Olympic Games, where she won gold at London 2012.
