Tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams have been knocked out of the US Open women's doubles in the first round. The American duo suffered a 6-3, 6-7(6), 7-6(7) defeat to the pairing of Maya Joint and Chan Hao-ching in a match that lasted three hours.
The Williams sisters fought hard, clawing their way back into the final set after trailing 1-4. They even established a commanding 5-0 lead in the third-set tie-break, appearing on the brink of victory before their opponents mounted a comeback.
This appearance marked their return to the US Open doubles court together, having last competed as a pair at the tournament in 2022. Serena, 44, had opted out of singles due to a knee injury, while Venus, 46, lost in the singles first round.
Despite the loss, the sisters displayed their competitive spirit, with Venus often noted as the best player on the court. Serena, however, reportedly struggled with her serve and returns throughout the match.
