Katie Zacharia, the new White House press secretary, conducted her first press briefing on Tuesday, days after being named as Karoline Leavitt's successor. The briefing, which lasted 14 minutes, included prepared remarks and three press questions. During the briefing, Zacharia reportedly stumbled over her words, saying, "My president — sorry, my husband."
Her performance drew criticism, including from television host Jimmy Kimmel, who commented on her reading and the brevity of the briefing during his Tuesday night show. Zacharia was previously employed at Donald Trump's social media company before her appointment.
During the briefing, it was also announced that Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, had been asked to resign following a report alleging she pleaded with a Trump donor to pay off her credit card bill. President Trump addressed Guilfoyle's proximity to his family, stating, "No, she wasn’t a member of my family. She, I guess, dated my son a long time ago."
