Ethiopian runner Yomif Kejelcha has shattered the men's half marathon world record, clocking an impressive 56 minutes 51 seconds at a World Athletics road race in Buenos Aires on Sunday. This performance saw him reclaim the top spot, shaving 29 seconds off the previous record.
Kejelcha, 29, had previously held the record with a time of 57:30, set in Valencia in October 2024. However, that record was surpassed by Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo, who ran 57:20 in Lisbon earlier this year. Kejelcha's latest achievement now stands as the new benchmark, pending official ratification.
Beyond the half marathon, Kejelcha is also a world track silver medallist in the 10,000m and holds the world record for a men's 10,000m road race. Earlier this year, he became one of the first men to complete a sub-two-hour marathon in record-eligible conditions, finishing second to Kenya's Sebastian Sawe in the London Marathon.
