Harry Kane has etched his name into the history books, becoming the first Englishman to be crowned Germany's footballer of the year for 2026. The Bayern Munich striker's exceptional season saw him net a remarkable 61 goals across all competitions, contributing to his side's league and cup double and their run to the Champions League semi-finals.
Kane secured 272 votes in the award, organised by Kicker magazine and decided by 695 members of the German sports journalists association. His Bayern teammate Michael Olise was runner-up with 203 votes. Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, praised Kane, stating, "It's almost impossible to find the right superlatives to describe Harry Kane - sometimes I'm at a loss for words."
The England captain's accolades continue to grow, having also received the 2026 Golden Shoe award earlier this week for being the top scorer across Europe's top leagues last season. Bayern boss Vincent Kompany was named coach of the year, and women's captain Giulia Gwinn won the best female player award.
Kane and Kompany are set to be honoured on Friday at Bayern's Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena. This follows Bayern's recent silverware success, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the German Super Cup on Saturday.
