The Kellogg's factory in Trafford Park, Greater Manchester, has ceased production after nearly 90 years, leading to the loss of approximately 360 jobs. The site, constructed in 1938, was once among the largest cereal factories in Europe.
Owners Kellanova are transferring production to their Wrexham site in North Wales. A company spokesperson stated that the Trafford Park site had been a crucial part of its success for decades and thanked those who worked there, along with suppliers, partners, and the local community.
Mick Murray from the retail union Usdaw described it as "a sad time" following efforts to secure the best possible outcome for members, including an enhanced redundancy package and relocation payments for those moving to Wrexham. Kellanova had announced in 2024 that the investment required to maintain the factory was not viable, citing the site's 1930s layout and unused space.
The company confirmed that the site will remain open until the end of the year. Kellanova also maintains a significant presence in the North West, with around 500 jobs at its UK head office in Media City, Salford, and a distribution centre in St Helens.
