Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the opposition, has initiated a reshuffle of her shadow cabinet. This decision comes after Andy Burnham's ascent to Number 10, despite Badenoch previously stating her shadow cabinet would remain unchanged until the next election.

As part of the changes, Mel Stride and Priti Patel have been sacked. Both individuals were mentioned in Robert Jenrick's speech explaining his departure from the Conservative party to Reform.

Promotions include Katie Lam, who is now the shadow housing secretary, and Tom Tugendhat. Both have been noted for their vocal presence on the Tory backbenches. Tugendhat has previously criticised the triple lock pension, which is a policy supported by Badenoch, describing it as a “Ponzi scheme” at last year's party conference. However, a spokesman for Badenoch stated that Tugendhat is fully aligned with the Conservatives’ policy platform, and a source close to Tugendhat indicated he never called for the triple lock to be abolished.
