Kenya has recorded its first confirmed Ebola case, according to Health Minister Aden Duale. The patient, a Kenyan citizen who had been residing in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), arrived in Nairobi on Saturday.
Mr Duale stated that the patient has since died. Following this, 28 contacts have been identified, including family members and health workers.
The DRC is currently experiencing its largest-ever Ebola outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo species. This outbreak, declared in mid-May, has led to over 8,000 cases and more than 4,000 deaths.
Ebola spreads through direct contact with the body fluids of infected individuals, whether living or deceased. Symptoms can include fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, and in severe instances, internal and external bleeding.
