Scottish athletes Josh Kerr and Jake Wightman are set to clash in the men's mile final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday night. The event, which last featured in 1966, is being reinstated and is drawing significant attention.
Kerr, described as the fastest man ever over the distance, and Wightman, a former 1500m world champion, have a shared history of racing in Glasgow since their junior days. Both are reportedly determined to secure gold for Scotland.
However, the Scottish duo will face strong competition from Australian contenders Cam Myers and Olli Hoare. Myers, 20, has had a notable summer in the Diamond League, while Hoare, the 2022 champion, secured his final spot after an appeal following a trip in his heat.
BBC Sport pundit Steve Cram, a former mile world record holder, anticipates a close race, stating, "I don't think any of them are going to completely dominate. I think it's going to be really close."
