England has brought former Ashes-winning batter Kevin Pietersen into their white-ball coaching setup. The 46-year-old will serve as a specialist mentor as the team prepares for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Pietersen's coaching tenure will kick off with the upcoming T20 and one-day matches against Sri Lanka. His involvement will extend to this winter's tours to Australia and South Africa, followed by home series against Pakistan and New Zealand next summer.

England's white-ball head coach, Brendon McCullum, expressed his respect for Pietersen, stating, "He's had an amazing impact on English cricket, so for someone with his experience, knowledge and stature to want to play a role with this team is a fantastic result." Pietersen is also expected to join the teams for the 50-over World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in the autumn.

Why this matters: The addition of a high-profile former player like Kevin Pietersen could bring significant experience and knowledge to England's white-ball squad as they prepare for major tournaments, including the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
