Former rugby league star and fundraiser Kevin Sinfield has launched the 'Sock It To MND' campaign, aiming to sell 7,777 pairs of sports socks to benefit motor neurone disease (MND) charities. This initiative supports his seventh and final challenge, titled '7 in 7: The Grand Finale'.
The challenge, which begins on 27 September and concludes at the Super League Grand Final on 3 October, will see Sinfield run an ultra marathon daily for seven consecutive days. He plans to visit all 12 English Super League grounds, covering at least 45km (27.9 miles) each day, starting at Hull KR's Craven Park.
Sinfield's fundraising efforts are inspired by his former teammate Rob Burrow, who died in June 2024 after living with MND. Since Burrow's diagnosis in December 2019, Sinfield, 46, has raised over £11m for MND causes. The idea for the new fundraising drive came from kit supplier Oxen Sports, who are selling the limited edition socks.
Oxen Sports is encouraging athletes, supporters, and organisations to share photos or videos on social media using #Sockit to show support for Sinfield's challenge and the MND community. All profits from the sock sales will go directly to MND charities and contribute to Sinfield's fundraising totals.
