  • Kimi Antonelli won the Spanish Grand Prix for Mercedes, the first victor at the Madring circuit.
  • Max Verstappen finished second for Red Bull, with McLaren's Lando Norris in third.
  • The race saw only four on-track passes after the opening lap, leading to questions about the track's design.

Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes has won the Spanish Grand Prix, marking the first victory at Formula One's new Madring circuit in Madrid. He finished ahead of Max Verstappen from Red Bull, who took second place, and Lando Norris of McLaren, who secured third.

The race, which was the debut for the Madring circuit, featured only four on-track passes after the initial lap, none of which occurred among the leading contenders. This lack of overtaking opportunities led to concerns about the track's design.

Antonelli's win is his eighth of the season, extending his championship lead over George Russell to 81 points. Lewis Hamilton's title hopes were significantly diminished after he retired on lap six due to a brake problem.

Drivers, including Verstappen, had previously voiced concerns about the circuit's design and its potential to limit overtaking, with simulator experiences suggesting difficulties. Verstappen stated that track designers had made mistakes, arguing that combining steering and braking under braking zones prevents overtaking.
