Seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has been knocked out of the Shanghai Masters in the second round after a 6-4 defeat to Kyren Wilson.
Defending Shanghai champion Wilson established an early 3-1 lead with breaks of 113 and 91. O'Sullivan then responded with three consecutive centuries, hitting breaks of 100, 111, and 131, to move 4-3 ahead in what was described as an entertaining match.
However, Wilson, the 2024 world champion, rallied to win three frames in a row with runs of 89, 79, and 97, securing his 6-4 victory. He will now progress to the quarter-finals, where he is set to face Mark Williams, who beat Chris Wakelin 6-5.
Wilson commented on the challenge of playing O'Sullivan in Shanghai, stating that the crowd's presence inspires him. He also mentioned that playing snooker in the tournament has been a welcome distraction after a difficult period off the table for his family.
In other matches, Xiao Guodong made a maximum 147 break but still lost 6-5 to Neil Robertson, while Judd Trump also reached the last eight after a 6-4 win against Barry Hawkins.
