Richard Tice, Reform's deputy leader, should apologise to firefighters for his comments this week encouraging British people to "enjoy" the extreme heat this summer, according to Labour party chair Bridget Phillipson.
Ms Phillipson called on Mr Tice to say sorry to those who have battled wildfires across the country in recent weeks, which have led to evacuations and destroyed homes. She told the Guardian on Wednesday that Mr Tice owes an apology to firefighters who risked their lives in extreme conditions.
Mr Tice made the remarks at a press conference, stating: "When it’s a bit warm, let’s enjoy it. And if it means that English wine and sparkling wine gets better and better, fantastic." Labour has highlighted his comments, including by releasing a video juxtaposing his words with footage of homes destroyed in the Stourbridge wildfire.
Reform did not respond to a request for comment regarding Ms Phillipson's statements.
