Labour has announced plans to establish a national care service, aiming to transform the current social care system. This initiative is described as a flagship policy by Andy Burnham, who stated that social care in England is "as unfair as American healthcare."
To fund the proposed national care service, Labour is considering changes to the pension triple lock. This approach seeks contributions from older people without impacting the incomes of younger generations.
Other policy announcements include capping most bus fares in England, cutting VAT on electricity bills in Great Britain, and reducing pub business rates in England. The party also outlined plans for ending rough sleeping, supporting young people not in education, employment or training (Neets), devolving powers from Westminster, building council homes, and renewing high streets.
Chancellor John Healey promised a "new age of industrialisation," while Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced a safe and legal route for Afghan women and girls and Palestinians.
