Labour has won the Holborn and St Pancras byelection, with candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali securing 12,292 votes. Green party leader Zack Polanski came second with 8,928 votes.
The byelection was initiated following the resignation of former prime minister Keir Starmer from the seat in September. The contest was largely seen as a two-horse race between Labour's Abdi-Wali and the Green party's Polanski.
Turnout for the byelection was 38.7%, which is the lowest for any byelection held in England during the current parliament. This figure represents a 15.4% decrease from the 2024 general election.
Labour's victory is described as a relief for Prime Minister Andy Burnham, marking his first significant electoral test. The result also aligns with polling data suggesting a recovery in public support for Burnham, following a period of decline under his predecessor, Keir Starmer.
