Will Lankshear made a memorable debut for Middlesbrough, scoring the decisive goal in their 1-0 victory over Wrexham in the Carabao Cup first round. The £10m summer signing from Tottenham netted the only goal of the game in the 61st minute with an excellent first-time volley.
Middlesbrough had an early chance in the seventh minute when Adilson Malanda's close-range effort was saved by Danny Ward. Wrexham also threatened, with Danny Imray missing a chance and Sam Smith's shot being blocked by Sol Brynn.
Lankshear, 21, curled an effort just over the bar at the start of the second half before eventually finding the net. Leo Castledine headed Jeremy Sarmiento’s cross into his path, allowing the striker to swivel and hook a superb volley into the far corner. Middlesbrough almost doubled their lead late on, but Morgan Whittaker's strike hit the post.
