Lewis in, Connor out of England's Rugby League World Cup squad

Hull KR's Mikey Lewis has secured a spot in England's Rugby League World Cup squad, while Leeds Rhinos half-back Jake Connor has been omitted.

  • Mikey Lewis of Hull KR has been selected for the England Rugby League World Cup squad.
  • Jake Connor, the 2025 Super League Man of Steel, has been left out of the squad.
  • Captain George Williams, Mikey Lewis, and Harry Smith are the half-back options for England.

Leeds Rhinos half-back Jake Connor has been left out of England's Rugby League World Cup squad, with Hull KR's Mikey Lewis securing a place instead. Connor, who was the 2025 Super League Man of Steel and provided 43 assists in the recently completed Super League campaign, had been expected to be included.

Despite an inconsistent season, Lewis has convinced England head coach Brian McDermott to select him. He joins captain George Williams, a Warrington stand-off, and Wigan's Harry Smith as the half-back options for the squad.

This marks another England disappointment for the 31-year-old Connor, following his omission from the home series against Australia last autumn. McDermott had previously described Connor as a "game-breaker" in April following his appointment as head coach.
