The Liberal Democrats have commenced work on a new manifesto in preparation for a possible snap election. Party leader Ed Davey said he understood the frustrations of some MPs who believe the party's message is at risk of being overlooked.
Speaking ahead of the party's annual conference, Mr Davey urged members not to be concerned by static polling numbers. He expressed confidence that tactical voting and fragmented political loyalties could lead the party to perform better than in 2024, when it secured 72 seats.
Mr Davey also highlighted what he described as the party's "moral responsibility" to prevent a Reform-led government. He predicted that Kemi Badenoch would eventually seek an alliance with Nigel Farage's party.
A manifesto working group, led by Cheadle MP Tom Morrison, has been established to ensure the party is ready if Andy Burnham calls an election. The Liberal Democrats' current national poll ratings are largely static at approximately 12% or 13%.
