The trial of Lindsay Clancy, a 36-year-old former nurse accused of murdering her three children, has ended in a mistrial. Jurors in Massachusetts were unable to reach a unanimous verdict after deliberating for six days and over 30 hours.
Ms Clancy had pleaded not guilty to the murders of five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan on 24 January 2023. Her defence attorney attributed her actions to postpartum psychosis and overmedication, while prosecutors argued she was aware of her actions.
The mistrial was declared after a judge declined to intervene following a defence petition to replace a juror who reportedly expressed reasonable doubt and would "not follow the law".
A status hearing has been set for 29 September, at which point a new trial date could be established. Plymouth county district attorney Tim Cruz will decide whether to retry the case. Ms Clancy's defence attorney, Kevin Reddington, stated he would file a motion for a directed finding of not guilty within days.
