The method involves gently rolling a lint roller across plant foliage, particularly the undersides of leaves. The sticky sheets can then be inspected for pests, which may appear as thin dark or pale slivers (thrips) or tiny moving dots (mites).
While effective for detection and a light physical intervention, the lint roller is not a complete solution. It is suggested that any detected pests should be followed up with appropriate insecticides or treatments, as rolling alone will not remove all pests, eggs, and larvae.
