A disused underground reservoir in Llandudno, North Wales, is planned to open as a new tourist attraction. The historic Y Fach, a Victorian relic beneath Happy Valley, will become Llandudno Vaults, an immersive arts venue.
The reservoir, mostly drained in the mid-20th century, features 248 redbrick arches and a roof height of 19 feet. The project aims to transform the space into a venue where Welsh myths and creatures are brought to life through storytelling, music, and interactive technology.
Visitors will reportedly descend into an atmospheric world where Victorian engineering merges with projection, sound, and performance, becoming part of the stories. The team behind the project has secured £20,000 in funding through the Immersive Arts programme to accelerate its development.
An opening date is yet to be confirmed, pending planning approval. However, the project has the support of local councillors, including Nigel Smith, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy, who stated it "has the potential of becoming one of Llandudno’s biggest attractions."
