Lloyd's of London is allowing its approximately 1,200 employees to work from home this week as a heatwave is expected to affect the capital. Temperatures in the Square Mile are forecast to reach 33C.
Despite this, the Lloyd’s Building at One Lime Street will remain fully open, providing air conditioning for all staff, insurance brokers, and underwriters. The company has also offered complimentary ice cream and themed refreshments in recent weeks when temperatures frequently exceeded 30C.
This is not the first time City firms have adjusted to high temperatures this year. Last month, JPMorgan Chase, ING, and Deutsche reportedly relaxed their desk order requirements during a June heatwave.
While ING dropped return-to-office requirements last month due to a Met Office red alert health warning, the bank is not urging staff to stay home this week as no such warning is currently in place.
