London City Lionesses Secure Record-Breaking Nike Sponsorship Deal

London City Lionesses have announced a new front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with Nike, which their owner Michele Kang states is the largest in women's football.

  • The Nike deal is the largest front-of-shirt sponsorship in the women's game.
  • The deal reportedly exceeds some men's Premier League clubs' shirt agreements.
  • The sponsorship is expected to significantly boost the club's annual revenue.

Women's Super League club London City Lionesses have secured a new front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with Nike, which their American owner, Michele Kang, has confirmed is the largest in women's football. Kang also claims the agreement surpasses some men's Premier League clubs' shirt deals.

While the specific length and value of the deal remain undisclosed, sources close to the WSL club are describing it as a game-changing moment. Kang stated to BBC Sport that the deal is higher than the approximately $4m per year agreement for the new NWSL franchise in Atlanta, which was previously reported as the largest for a women's football team.

The deal is anticipated to provide a significant financial boost for London City, who posted an annual revenue of £902,000 and an operating loss of over £10m in their most recent financial accounts for the 2024-25 season. The club's recent high-profile signings, including Alexia Putellas, Mary Earps, and Mapi León, are believed to have been a key factor in Nike's valuation.

London City is set to begin their second top-flight season by hosting Manchester United on Friday in the opening game of the new WSL campaign.

Why this matters: This landmark sponsorship deal highlights the growing commercial value and investment in women's football, potentially setting a new benchmark for financial agreements in the sport.
