London City Lionesses sign 'largest' women's shirt deal with Nike

London City Lionesses owner Michele Kang states the club has secured the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in women's football with Nike, surpassing existing records.

  • The deal is with sports brand Nike.
  • Owner Michele Kang confirmed it is the largest women-only front-of-shirt deal.
  • The sponsorship is reportedly higher than some men's Premier League front-of-shirt deals.

London City Lionesses have signed what their owner, Michele Kang, describes as the largest shirt sponsorship deal in women's football with sports brand Nike. Kang stated the agreement is worth more than current top deals in the women's game and even surpasses some Premier League men's team sponsorships.

The previous largest deal for a women's side was believed to be for the new National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) franchise in Atlanta, reportedly valued at about $4m (£2.96m). Kang confirmed the London City deal is higher than this figure.

This announcement follows a significant summer for London City, which saw them sign players including two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas, Spain defender Mapi Leon, ex-England goalkeeper Mary Earps, and Lyon winger Kadidiatou Diani. London City is the only independent women's club in England's top flight, as other Women's Super League clubs share shirt sponsors with their men's teams.

Why this matters: This landmark deal indicates growing investment and belief in the future of women's football, potentially setting a new benchmark for sponsorships in the sport.
