London is being lined up as a potential venue for a re-run of last month’s dramatic GAA All-Ireland Football Championship final between Mayo and Kerry. Saracens’ StoneX Stadium is reportedly being eyed by both counties, who are seeking permission from the Central Council in Ireland to stage the match.
The Prem Rugby ground could see its capacity expanded to 15,000 for the match, with both teams having a strong fan base in the capital. However, the challenge game would require special dispensation from the GAA Central Council, as such matches are not typically permitted between the end of the season and December.
Mayo secured a three-point victory over favourites Kerry in July at Croke Park, ending a 70-year wait for a domestic title. The scoreline was 1-20 to 1-17, marking Mayo's first title in 11 finals since 1951.
A spokesperson for Saracens stated they were "unable to comment on speculation regarding potential events or fixtures at StoneX Stadium." It is considered unlikely that a full GAA All-Ireland Football Championship final would be played outside of Ireland, with the 1947 final being the last occasion held overseas.
