Transport for London has shut down key sections of the Underground and Overground networks this bank holiday weekend, leaving thousands of commuters and tourists scrambling for alternative routes across the capital.
The Piccadilly Line will not run between Acton Town and all Heathrow Airport terminals, forcing air passengers to rely on replacement buses or alternative TfL connections. Travellers are being urged to allow extra time and check TfL's website before setting off.
The Elizabeth Line faces major disruption with no services between Paddington and Abbey Wood, and no trains running between Whitechapel and Stratford. These closures will sever crucial east-west links across London, forcing diversions for weekend travellers and those heading to family gatherings.
The District Line will also see partial closures alongside sections of the London Overground network. TfL is urging passengers to verify their routes in advance as the engineering works continue across the bank holiday.
The planned maintenance is part of ongoing upgrades to improve network reliability and safety. TfL typically schedules major works during bank holidays when passenger numbers drop, though this inevitably creates headaches for those travelling to events, visiting family, or exploring the capital over the long weekend.
