Commuters and leisure travellers in London are advised to plan their journeys carefully this weekend, as Transport for London (TfL) has announced extensive closures across several Underground and Overground lines. These disruptions are due to essential engineering works aimed at maintaining and upgrading the network.
The Piccadilly Line will experience significant closures. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be no service between Acton Town and Uxbridge. Additionally, the line will be shut between Hyde Park Corner and Northfields, and between Hyde Park Corner and South Harrow. Passengers travelling to Heathrow Airport via the Piccadilly Line will also be affected, with alternative transport arrangements likely to be necessary.
Further impacting central and west London, the Metropolitan Line will be closed between Aldgate and Finchley Road for the entire weekend. Similarly, the District Line will not operate between Turnham Green and Richmond. The Hammersmith & City Line is also subject to full closure between Liverpool Street and Barking, affecting services through key parts of East London.
The Elizabeth Line, a crucial east-west connection, will see partial closures. There will be no service between Paddington and Abbey Wood, and also between Paddington and Shenfield. These closures will necessitate passengers seeking alternative routes, potentially increasing journey times and congestion on other services or replacement bus routes.
Travellers are strongly encouraged to check the TfL website or use their journey planner before setting out. Replacement bus services will be operating on some affected routes, but these are expected to be busy. The works are part of ongoing efforts to modernise London's transport infrastructure, aiming to improve reliability and capacity in the long term.
