'Loneliest dog' Sadie finds new home after three years in kennels

A collie cross named Sadie, previously described as "Britain's loneliest dog", has been rehomed after nearly three years in RSPCA kennels.

  • Sadie was rescued from a property in Cornwall where she was kept with 200 other animals.
  • Her previous owner received a jail sentence and a lifetime ban from owning dogs.
  • The RSPCA reported 3,280 multi-animal cases across England and Wales this year.

A five-year-old collie cross named Sadie has found a new home after spending nearly three years in RSPCA kennels. She was rescued from a property in Cornwall where she was living in unsuitable outdoor compounds with 200 other animals, according to the charity.

Sadie's rehoming was delayed due to legal processes. After being cleared for adoption, she remained in RSPCA care for over 1,000 days, leading staff to describe her as "Britain's loneliest dog".

To help find her a home, the RSPCA posted daily videos of Sadie on social media. Mabel Edge from Westward Ho! in Devon saw one of these clips and, after visiting Sadie four times with her partner Al, decided to adopt her.

The RSPCA stated that Sadie's previous owner received a jail sentence and has been banned from owning dogs for life. The charity also warned of "unprecedented pressure" on its teams due to rising multi-animal cases, with 3,280 reported across England and Wales this year.

Why this matters: The RSPCA has highlighted rising levels of multi-animal cases, with 3,280 reported across England and Wales this year, putting "unprecedented pressure" on its teams.
