Network Rail has announced that essential renewal work will be carried out at Long Eaton level crossing in Derbyshire during two weekends in July. The upgrades are designed to enhance the safety and reliability of the crossing for both railway passengers and road users in the area.
The first phase of the work is scheduled to take place from Saturday, 6 July, at 00:01, concluding on Sunday, 7 July, at 23:59. The second phase will follow two weeks later, beginning on Saturday, 20 July, at 00:01 and finishing on Sunday, 21 July, at 23:59. During these periods, the level crossing will be completely closed to all road traffic, including cyclists and pedestrians, to facilitate the necessary engineering works.
Motorists will be directed via a signed diversion route, which will take them along Tamworth Road, High Street, Main Street, and Station Road. Pedestrians will also have a diverted route available, utilising Station Road, Main Street, and High Street. Local bus services will be affected by these closures, with passengers advised to check with their operators for updated timetables and temporary stop locations.
A spokesperson for Network Rail emphasised the importance of these renewals, stating that the work is critical for maintaining the operational integrity of the railway infrastructure and ensuring the safety of everyone who uses the crossing. The organisation has apologised in advance for any inconvenience caused to residents and commuters during the periods of closure.
These planned works are part of Network Rail's ongoing commitment to modernising and maintaining the country's rail network. Regular maintenance and renewal projects like this are vital for preventing unexpected faults and ensuring the long-term efficiency and safety of level crossings, which are key intersections between road and rail.
