Daniel Gowers, 33, of Dunedin Road, Havering, was found guilty of driving into a brick bridge in Swallowfield, Berkshire, on 11 February. He was convicted of driving without due care and attention.
Reading Magistrates' Court fined Mr Gowers £1,100, ordered him to pay a £440 surcharge and £130 in costs, and issued nine points on his driving licence. The conviction and sentencing occurred in his absence on 15 September.
The collision damaged one side of the bridge's brick wall, necessitating a road closure for more than two weeks. Repair work, which began on 28 September, requires a further road closure for the parapet replacement. Wokingham Borough Council, the bridge owner, previously stated that repairs were expected to cost £60,000 and is working to recover costs from the responsible party and their insurers.
