Los Angeles Rams' 'Superteam' Struggles Continue with Kickerless Loss

The Los Angeles Rams, once tipped as Super Bowl contenders, have lost three of their last four games and are now last in the NFC West with a 2-4 record.

  • The Rams lost to the Arizona Cardinals 18-16, despite the Cardinals not scoring a touchdown.
  • Los Angeles played without a specialist kicker after Blake Grupe was injured and Harrison Mevis was released.
  • Prized defensive end Myles Garrett is still rehabbing from knee surgery, and Aaron Donald has returned from retirement.

The Los Angeles Rams, initially considered a potential NFL 'superteam', are currently struggling with a 2-4 record, placing them last in the NFC West. The team has lost three of its last four games, including a recent 18-16 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals.

In their latest loss, the Rams were without a specialist kicker. Blake Grupe, signed from the Jets practice squad, was injured in the first quarter, days after Harrison Mevis was released following four missed kicks in the season's first five weeks. This absence reportedly influenced key game decisions, including a failed two-point conversion attempt and a turnover on downs in field-goal range.

The team's difficulties extend beyond special teams. Defensive end Myles Garrett is rehabilitating from knee surgery, and Aaron Donald, who came out of retirement, has not been in top form. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has reportedly only shown his MVP-level performance in one game this season, and wide receiver Puka Nacua has played in only four games. Davante Adams, serving as the No 1 wideout in Nacua's absence, left Sunday's game with a suspected knee injury.
