Shane Lowry has established a four-shot lead going into the final round of the Irish Open, putting him in contention for his first individual victory since 2022. The Irishman delivered an inspired performance on the greens during the third round.
Lowry, who began the third round three shots ahead after a course-record 62 on Friday, maintained control of the tournament. Despite being briefly caught by Jacob Skov Olesen, Lowry recorded a five-under 65, one-putting every green on the back nine.
Reflecting on his putting, Lowry stated, "I'm normally the one watching other people do it, so why not me sometimes." He added, "It's nice, I'm seeing my lines well and starting the ball where I want and they're going in and hopefully that stays that way for another 24 hours."
Denmark's Olesen, who is seeking his first DP World Tour title, bogeyed the final hole to finish with a four-under 66. Chile's Joaquin Niemann matched Olesen's score, moving into third place. Defending champion Rory McIlroy (74) and two-time winner Jon Rahm (72) both saw their hopes of lifting the trophy again diminish.
Play was briefly stopped during the day due to US President Donald Trump's arrival at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg, County Clare, as part of a two-day visit to Ireland.
