The London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), under the baton of Edward Gardner, recently performed a diverse programme at the Royal Albert Hall. The evening commenced with Kristine Tjøgersen's 'Between Trees', a piece described as a nature poem utilising extended techniques and novel effects, such as prepared harp and strings.
The concert continued with selections from Canteloube's 'Songs of the Auvergne', featuring soloist Louise Alder. Her soprano voice complemented the orchestrations, bringing storytelling to tales of shepherdesses and country life. The final piece was Richard Strauss's 'An Alpine Symphony', which depicted a day in the Bavarian Alps through its orchestrations, including a tumultuous storm.
