Lucy Rigby has returned to the role of Economic Secretary to the Treasury, marking her second appointment to the position in two years. Her return comes under the new Burnham regime, just weeks after she was moved to Chief Secretary to the Treasury in May.
Rigby previously served for nearly nine months under the Starmer government, during which she championed a new tax holiday for stamp duty on shares for newly-listed companies and launched the 'Savvy the Squirrel' campaign to encourage retail investors into UK equities.
The Square Mile has reportedly welcomed her return, with some industry figures hoping for greater consistency and long-term policy certainty. Challenges facing Rigby include addressing London's delistings, tackling a wave of takeover bids, and galvanising the UK's fintech IPO prospects. She also has control over personal savings policy, including ISA reforms.
