A section of the M9 motorway in County Kildare remains closed following a two-vehicle collision that resulted in a number of fatalities and four injuries. The incident occurred on the M9 Northbound at Junction 3 at approximately 03:00 local time on Sunday.
Gardaí reported that one vehicle was travelling on the wrong side of the carriageway when it collided head-on with a second car. The driver and front passenger of the second car, both women in their 30s, are in critical condition at Tallaght University Hospital. A female rear seat passenger, in her 20s, is in serious condition at St. Luke's General Hospital, while a child passenger is in serious condition at Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin.
The M9 from Junction 3 to Junction 4 is closed northbound and southbound, with local diversions in place. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and for road users with dashcam footage from the M9 between 02:00 and 03:00 on Sunday to come forward. Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, has been notified of the incident.
