macOS update reportedly includes video of camera-equipped AirPods

A video found in the latest macOS release candidate appears to show camera-equipped AirPods being used with Siri's Visual Intelligence. The footage was spotted by MacRumors.

  • A video in macOS 26.7 RC shows a user holding a book and asking Siri about it using visual information.
  • MacRumors reports the AirPods will have a camera and may notify users if the camera is covered.
  • Bloomberg previously reported Apple was testing such a device, with a possible launch alongside operating system updates.

A video found in the latest macOS update appears to show Apple's upcoming camera-equipped AirPods, according to MacRumors. The footage, discovered in macOS 26.7 RC, shows a man holding up a book and asking Siri about it using visual information.

“With Visual Intelligence, your world becomes savable. See something you like? Just ask me to save it for later,” the voiceover in the video says.

MacRumors reports that the new AirPods would have a camera to examine objects in front of the user and answer questions about them. The publication also found a line in the software code suggesting the AirPods would notify users if hair or something else covers the camera.

In May, Bloomberg reported that Apple was in the late stages of testing such a device. The report said the camera-equipped AirPods would resemble the AirPods Pro 3 but with a longer stem and an LED light to indicate data being sent to the cloud.

Why this matters: The video suggests Apple is preparing launch materials for camera-equipped AirPods, potentially signalling a move into real-world intelligence devices.

What this means for you: If released, the AirPods could allow you to use Siri to identify and save information about objects around you.
