Madonna made her return to the MTV Video Music Awards stage last night (September 27), performing for the first time at the event in 23 years. The pop icon opened the 2026 ceremony in Los Angeles, joined by Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX.
The performance drew on the visual world of her latest album, 'Confessions II'. Madonna and Carpenter performed their collaboration 'Bring Your Love', while Charli XCX later joined Madonna for 'Danceteria Afterhours', a new reworking of a 'Confessions II' track.
The night was a significant one for Madonna, who secured seven awards at the 2026 VMAs. Her wins included Artist Of The Year, Best Dance, and Best Album for 'Confessions II'. She and Sabrina Carpenter also won Best Collaboration for 'Bring Your Love'.
