Simon Rumley's new thriller, 'Crushed', stars Steve Oram as Father Daniel, a priest in Bangkok whose daughter, Olivia, is abducted. The film, which features a child-abduction situation, has been described as a Paul Schrader-esque inquiry into spiritual nihilism.

Father Daniel, pastor to a mixed Anglo-Thai congregation, lives with his wife May and young daughter Olivia. Olivia's disappearance after school prompts Father Daniel's own test of faith, following an earlier incident where she was traumatised by a "crush" video and her cat went missing.

The film reportedly avoids a straightforward vengeance narrative, instead using clever juxtaposition to compare Father Daniel's ideals with the surrounding reality. Christian Ferreira delivers an increasingly harrowing performance as the paedophile's South African fixer.
