Taylor Swift dedicated her Video Of The Year award at last night's MTV VMAs to the late Dolly Parton, calling the country music icon the "ultimate showgirl." Swift received the top prize at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles yesterday for her video 'The Fate Of Ophelia', which she wrote and directed.
During her acceptance speech, Swift praised Parton's vivid storytelling and her ability to channel life events into "love and gratitude" for her fans. She expressed gratitude for being one of Parton's fans and for the world having shared the planet with her.
In addition to her win, Swift made history at the ceremony by becoming the most-awarded artist in MTV VMAs history. She surpassed Beyoncé's record of 30 wins, bringing her career total to 33 VMAs after winning the inaugural Artist Director Honors, Best Direction for 'Opalite', and Video Of The Year.
The ceremony also featured a separate tribute to Parton, with Kacey Musgraves performing 'I Will Always Love You' alongside archival footage. Swift also premiered her new 'Patient Zero' video, starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, following the release of 'The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore' last week.
