Robert Hastings, Mayor of Malmesbury in Wiltshire, has launched an appeal to find a missing piece of his 100-year-old gold chain of office. The mayor discovered a small hole in the ceremonial jewellery after the town's carnival on 5 September.
The missing item is a gold piece of wheat, approximately four inches long, which forms part of the Malmesbury crest. Mr Hastings believes it may have come loose during his visits to various attractions on carnival day.
Malmesbury Town Council is offering a "small reward" for anyone who helps to locate the missing piece. Volunteers have already used metal detectors in areas where the chain was last seen, including the junction of Park Road and Gloucester Road, but without success.
