Phillip Ormerod, a 102-year-old man from Cwmbran, Torfaen, has died after allegedly being assaulted at a pub in the town. Gwent Police confirmed his death on Thursday, 13 August 2026.
Mr Ormerod was taken to hospital in a critical condition following an incident at the Crow's Nest pub on 1 August. Emergency services were called to the pub at approximately 22:25 BST after a report of an assault.
A 56-year-old man from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains under investigation. Det Ch Insp Shelley Comley of Gwent Police urged the public to consider the impact of inaccurate or speculative comments, including online commentary, due to the active criminal investigation and the family's loss.
Police are appealing for anyone who was at the pub between 22:00 and 23:00 on the night of the incident to contact them.
