A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man fell from a balcony at flats on Liverpool Street in Salford. Police were called shortly after midnight on Saturday following reports of the fall, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed.
Emergency services attended the scene, and the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains in a critical condition. A man in his 20s has been taken into police custody for questioning.
GMP stated that the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because the men had earlier contact with police. Ch Insp Lee Gridley said officers are working to establish the full circumstances and believe this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.
An IOPC spokesperson confirmed that investigators were sent to police post-incident procedures in Manchester in assessment mode to gather information and will assess a GMP referral in due course.
