A shocking incident from five years ago has come back into focus, with a 44-year-old man being held in custody on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. In May 2017, a jogger allegedly pushed a 33-year-old woman onto the path of an oncoming bus on Putney Bridge in south-west London.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that they reopened the investigation into the incident after reviewing CCTV footage, which shows a jogger running along the bridge and appearing to shove the woman into the road. The bus driver, Oliver Salbris, has previously spoken about his quick reactions, saying that if he hadn't swerved, the consequences would have been 'terrible' for the woman and for him.
The police had initially closed their investigation in 2018 after arresting three men without charge. However, detectives identified more than 50 people of interest during their inquiry and have now decided to reopen the case.
It is understood that the arrested man was among those originally investigated but released without charge. He remains in custody as the police continue to investigate the incident.
The decision to reopen the investigation comes after a thorough review of new evidence, which has led detectives to re-examine the original suspects and potential witnesses. The Met's renewed focus on this case is a testament to their commitment to ensuring justice for all parties involved.
