A man is believed by police to have killed a woman and their child inside an in-home daycare centre in Hopkins, Minnesota, before taking his own life. Hopkins police responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence on the 200 block of Tyler Avenue North around 9am on Wednesday, where they found two adults and a child dead.
Police have described the incident as a domestic-related homicide and stated there are no outstanding suspects or ongoing threat to the public. Preliminary findings suggest the deceased man was the assailant.
Hopkins police chief Brent Johnson said another parent called police after witnessing the attack while dropping off a child at Brown Bear Childcare. All six other children who were at the home during the incident were evacuated and reunited with their parents, with none reported harmed.
The identities of the victims have not been released, and authorities are continuing to investigate the motive behind the killings. The daycare has been licensed by the state since 2019 and has a capacity for 10 children.
