A man has been charged in connection with the alleged hit-and-run death of 12-year-old schoolboy Keaton Slater in Coventry in June 2024. Dolars Aleksanders, 23, was extradited from Latvia and has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, West Midlands Police stated on Wednesday night.

Mr Aleksanders was detained in Latvia last month and flown into Gatwick Airport on Wednesday before being transported to a custody block in the West Midlands. He is scheduled to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Keaton died after being struck by a black BMW while on his way home from school. Efforts to extradite Mr Aleksanders had been ongoing since police named him as a person of interest shortly after the incident, according to a Crown Prosecution Service spokesman.
